Guide Proliferation Policy
Only the most recent version of any instructor's particular Course Guide may be published. Versions from previous semesters/years
must be unpublished.

Before You Create that Guide...
Internal Guides are private guides which may adopt any organization scheme or style.
All Internal Guides must be set to Private
. Passwords are required only for guides containing sensitive information.
Create the Guide
Set guide template, type and name when you create the guide. Do NOT assign a group or password.
1 | Click Create Guide from your LibGuides homepage. |
2 | Choose Copy content/layout from an existing guide from the Choose Layout or Reuse dropdown. |
3 | Choose General Subject Template from the Select a Guide dropdown. |
4 | Type the guide name in the Guide Name field (e.g., 'Cultural Studies').

5 | Choose Subject from the Guide Type dropdown. |
6 | Click Create Guide |

2 | Choose Start Fresh from the Choose Layout or Reuse dropdown. |
3 | Choose Reference and General Purpose Guide from the Select a Guide dropdown. |
4 | Type the guide name in the Guide Name field (e.g., 'Citing and Managing Sources').

6 | Click Create Guide |
Create the Guide
Set guide template, type and name when you create the guide. Do NOT assign a group or password.

3 | Choose How-to Guide from the Select a Guide dropdown. |
4 | Type the guide name in the Guide Name field (e.g., 'Formatting Your Dissertation with LaTex').

Title the Guide
Use this Title Builder Tool to ensure course titles conform to the approved format.
Librarians should not add their names to Course Guide titles.
1 | Enter the course abbreviation in the Course Abbreviation field at right. |
2 | Enter the 2nd course abbreviation in the 2nd Course Abbreviation field at right. |
3 | Enter the course title in the Course Title field at right. |
4 | Enter the course subtitle in the Course Subtitle field at right. |
5 | Enter the instructor last name in the Instructor Last Name field at right. |
6 | Enter the 2nd instructor last name in the 2nd Instructor Last Name field at right. |
7 | Click Build to generate the title. |
8 | Click to copy the title to the clipboard. |

Create the Guide
Set guide template, type and name when you create the guide. Do NOT assign a group. Passwords are optional.
1 | Click Create Guide from your LibGuides homepage. |
2 | Choose Start fresh from the Choose Layout or Reuse dropdown. |
3 | Choose Course from the Select a Guide dropdown. |
4 | Assuming you've used the Title Builder Tool (above), copy and paste the following into the Guide Name field:

5 | Choose Course from the Guide Type dropdown. |
6 | Type a password into the Password field. Required only if guide contains sensitive information. Optional |
7 | Click Create Guide |

1 | Click Create Guide from your LibGuides homepage. |
2 | Choose Start fresh from the Choose Layout or Reuse dropdown. |
3 | Choose Internal Guide (1 column) from the Select a Guide dropdown. |
4 | Type the guide name in the Guide Name field (e.g., 'Employee Training').

6 | Type a password into the Password field. Required only if guide contains sensitive information. Optional |
7 | Click Create Guide |

1 | Click Create Guide from your LibGuides homepage. |
2 | Choose Start fresh from the Choose Layout or Reuse dropdown. |
3 | Choose Internal Guide (1-4 columns) from the Select a Guide dropdown. |
4 | Type the guide name in the Guide Name field (e.g., 'Employee Training').

6 | Type a password into the Password field. Required only if guide contains sensitive information. Optional |
7 | Click Create Guide |
Create the Guide
1 | Click Create Guide from your LibGuides homepage. |
2 | Choose Start fresh from the Choose Layout or Reuse dropdown. |
3 | Choose Subject Guide from the Select a Guide dropdown. |
4 | Type the guide name in the Guide Name field (e.g., 'The War of the Roses').

5 | Choose Subject from the Guide Type dropdown. |
6 | Click Create Guide |
Add or Delete Pages
1 | Click the button with the plus icon () under the left navigation to add a new page. |
2 | Select Delete Page from the Page dropdown to delete any page you're currently on |
Add or Delete Boxes
Box Title Format
Box titles must be title case. They should not contain labels or special icons.
1 | Click the Add Box - Column 1 link (below the last box on the page) to add a box. |
2 | Enter the box title into the Box Name field (e.g., "The Collections") |
3 | Choose the [box type] from the Type dropdown. (For Mapped Boxes, see these instructions.) |
4 | Select the Draft Mode checkbox to temporarily hide a box from public view. Optional |
Do not select the Floating Box checkbox. Floating boxes are not to be used in Library Guides. | |
5 | Click Save |
Assign Friendly URLs to All Pages
1 | Click the pencil icon () next to the Guide URL to add a friendly URL to the guide. |
2 | Click the pencil icon () next to the Page URL to add a friendly URL to the current page. |
Repeat step 2 for each page of the guide which doesn't already have a friendly URL. |
Assign Subject(s) and Tags

If you wish to associate the guide with more than 1 subject, or more than 5 tags, please
contact the LMT.
1 | Click the pencil icon () next to Subjects to associate the guide with 1 general subject. |
2 | Click the pencil icon () next to Tags to add up to 5 tags. All tags should be lowercase. |
Add a Profile Box to Each Page
Profile Boxes Required
You must have at least 1 profile box beneath the left navigation on each page
of your guide. No other content may be placed below profile boxes.
1 | Click the Add Box link, below the left navigation. |
2 | Choose Profile Box from the Type dropdown. |
3 | Click the Save button. |
4 | Click the gear icon () at the top of any profile box to switch profiles. Optional |
Review the Guide with the LMT Before Publishing
The LMT will use the following rubric to ensure your guide meets minimum requirements before publication.

Example
Publish/Unpublish the Guide
1 | Click on the dropdown reflecting the current status of the guide. (e.g., Unpublished ) |
2 | Select Change Status and Share |
3 | In the pop up window, select the Guide Publishing tab. |
4 | Select Unpublished , Published , or Private from the Publication Status dropdown. |
5 | Click the topmost Save button. |

Set a Password Optional
1 | Click on the dropdown reflecting the current status of the guide. (e.g., Unpublished ) |
2 | Select Access Controls . |
3 | In the Access Restrictions window, select the Password tab. |
4 | Enter a password in the Guide Password field. |
5 | Click the Save button. |
